Description: It is estimated that there over 200 different varieties of kalo or taro – also known as colocasia esculenta. While many varieties of kalo are preferred for their medicinal qualities, many recognize kalo as a staple food of Hawai‘i often eaten in the form of poi and representative of the akua, Hāloanakalaukapalili.
